Interview with Jacki Stone from Vains of Jenna on the new album

16 03 2009

New exlusive Ink N’ Sleaze interview with Vains of Jenna drummer Jacki Stone!

Thank you very much Jacki!

Vains of Jenna is currently touring Sweden again, you guys have spent a
long time playing dates and staying in America, what was that time like?

Jacki Stone: Touring all over America was a dream coming true! We did
everything from small shitty clubs, to big amphitheatres, and driving in
our van for 15 hours in snowstorms, to relaxing in the sun by our tour
bus! It’s been a lot of fun… When we didn’t tour we lived in L.A. I love
that city and I can’t wait to get back.

Then after America, what was it like coming back to Europe and playing
shows again in your own country?

J.S: I had know Idea of what to expect here in Europe. We did like 15
shows over here before we left for the states, so it was hard to tell if
we had a follow in Europe. But so far so good, it’s been some great shows
in Sweden that’s been sold out and now we are touring with the cool chicks
from Crucified Barbara, they rock! Played some shows in Italy and toured
England with Viking Skull… that was good times!

Is there a difference between shows/crowds in America and Europe?

J.S: It’s pretty much the same I think. It really depends on where you
play and how many people there are etc.

What’s the best part of being in Vains Of Jenna?

J.S: That’s a though one… I’m just so glad I got to do what I want in my
life, and that is to play my drums and tour! The four of us are best
friends and we are so strong together… Always pushing to get the best out
of every situation and we all take care of one another. Friends like that
don’t grow on trees.

Your debut album “Lit Up/Let Down” was a great succes, the band is busy
writing and recording a follow up for the debut, is there more pressure in
making the album than when you were making Lit Up/Let Down?

J.S: Yeah it’s been more pressure on this album, but that has only been a
good thing.
It’s a totally different situation with this album. First of all we
recorded in a real studio this time with a producer etc. “Lit Up” was self
produced and recorded in a cabin in 1 week and wasn’t even meant to be an
album. This one have so much more work behind the songs and they all
sounds different from each other and I really like that.

“Lit Up/Let Down” was a hard rock album with a hearable influence from
Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith and other classic rock bands, What kinda music
can we expect to be on the new album?

J.S: All the songs kicks ass! So many different styles of music are on
this album. It’s still rock n roll but you can expect a Vains of Jenna
album that is SO much bigger, with SO much better songs and SO much better
produced than “Lit up”.

The band recently released a second video for the song “Enemy In Me”, will
that song be on the album?

J.S: Yes.

Is there a possibility of sharing some song titles that will appear on the
album?

J.S: Not quite yet. Hopefully we can post some of the titles in the
beginning of this summer.

And perhaps the album title? If there is an album title already that is..

J.S. That one we are still working on.

When can we expect the album to be released?

J.S: Hard to tell. I’m hoping this fall.

Now I would like to ask you a couple of questions with a little less depth
in it..

What bands or artists influenced you the most?

J.S: Nirvana was a band I listened to daily for like 10 years… There are
so many bands, but to name a few: The Who, Guns N Roses, Aersosmith, The
Stones, Zeppelin. Right now I listen to Atreyo a lot.

What’s the best song ever made?

J.S: ohh, that I don’t know.

If you weren’t in Vains of Jenna, what kind of work do you think you would
be doing?

J.S: I would probably have a really boring 9-5 job and I would be day
dreaming about being in Vains of Jenna.

The Barbarellatones – Not Dog…Snow-Lion!

23 02 2009

Close your eyes and picture this, the Doors getting into a fight with a bunch of dragqueens. What do you hear? You hear the new Barbarellatones record “Not Dog…Snow-Lion!”

This album ain’t got the kind of music I usually listen to, this is way more laidback and a bit trippy, but I like it anyway. It does also contain a huge amount of humour. I think when you smoke a joint or two and put on this record you will have a great night, you might flow just as much as the music does.

I love “I Don’t Give a Damn!”, the music is kinda country like and the lyrics are just way too funny, I was listening to this album with a friend of mine and we just fucking laughed our asses off.
For all the N.Y. Dolls fans out there, there’s a great cover of “Bad Girl” on this disc. There’s also an appearance of the German Queen glamorous weirdess: Nina Hagen on the song “Nina Hagen”, which is about her.

So if you wanna have a good ol’ trippy time, go get some hasj and this Barbarellatones record.

Kiss Or Kill..

16 02 2009

So lately I’ve been seeing and hearing a lot about this band called Endeverafter. I loved their track “Baby, Baby, Baby” on the free cd “Sons of GunsIII” from Classic Rock Magazine, and magazines and blogs were pretty positive about this album so I figured, why not get the album and write a little review, even though it was released in 2007..

Endeverafter is poppy in a rocking way. These are some radiofriendly songs with mellow chorusses. But still, there is a lot of guitar violence on this disc.
“I Wanna Be Your Man” kickstarts the album with thunder drums and bass-n-guitars of lighting. Fast vocals which sound quite like mr Axl Rose when there’s some screaming involved. This first song might also be my favorite on this album. Second song “Baby, Baby, Baby” is a song I have heard many times before thanks to  CRM, and is a songs I just have to sing along to with the chorus. Love the guitar solo on this one. The intro of “Poison” sounds like Iron Maiden mudwrestlin’ Eddie, once again, I love the solo on this song, hats-off. “Long Way Home” is a very beautiful ballad with very nice musical arrangements. I can lose myself in this song..

Hardcore Superstar “Beg For It”

12 02 2009

I’m sorry I’m always pretty late with news about bands and stuff.. but anyhow..

Hardcore Superstar, maybe one of the biggest names in the wonderful genre of sleaze, will release a new album in June 2009 called “Beg For It”. Which sure is gonna give rock n’ roll another firm kick in the ass.

Since Hardcore Superstar formed in 1997 they’ve released 6 albums which are devinatly worth having, listening and banging your head to.

It’s Only Rock’n’Roll – (1997)
Bad Sneakers and a Piña Colada – (2000)
Thank You (For Letting Us Be Ourselves) – (2001)
No Regrets – (2003)
Hardcore Superstar – (2005)
Dreamin’ in a Casket – (2007)

So those of you that don’t know this band yet, check ’em out, they’re great!

Hardcore Superstar will be on tour with In Flames between April 15 to May 2 in the U.K.

Sick n’ Loaded..

11 02 2009

I know I’m very late with this post but fuck it.. I’ll post it anyway ‘cos it is news that matters anyway.

Duff McKagan’s Loaded new album “Sick” is due to be released late March this year. Duff is probably most known for being ex-bassist in Guns N’ Roses and current bassist of Velvet Revolver. Songs for the new album are rumoured to be “Roll Away”, “Sick”, “No More”, “Southern Girl”, “Forgive Me”,  “No Shame” and “Translucent”.

“No More” was already released on the E.P. “Wasted Heart”, which was released in September last year, and I gave that E.P. a lot of spins on my radio so needless to say, I’m looking forward to Sick!

Swedmetal Threesome..

9 02 2009

Innocent Rosie – Bad Habit Romance
01. Bitter Pill
02. Knock Me Out
03. Animal
04. Let a Memory Die
05. Bad Habit Romance
06. Sextalkin’
07. I’m A Vibe
08. Wasteland
09. Shine,Shine,Shine
10. Don’t Drag me Down
11. I’ll Get Rich
12. Left Alone

Finally! Innocent Rosie will release their first album “Bad Habit Romance on February 18th 2009. I dunno about you, but I’ve been waiting for this album for quite some time, and I tell you all it’s been worth the wait. Innocent Rosie is everything Guns N’ Roses can never be again, raw, energetic and a kick ass rock n’ roll band.

The album is packed with big riffs and even bigger arena worthy choruses, ready to be chant along with by insane crowds from all over the world.

I love the wah-pedal guitar action in the intro  of “Knock Me Out”, as well as the vocals on this song. “Animal” is made to play as loud as possible, once this song grabs you there’s no letting go. The guitars are fast n’ heavy and the drums are ready to bash your guts to jelly. “Sextalkin'” starts of with a high pitched scream off the guitar and then transforms into a Mötley “Dr. Feelgood” era-riff. I like the rock n’ roll piano on this song.
“Let A Memory Die” begins like a slow groofy blues tune, but then slowly but surely morphes into a rock n roll gutpounder.

Cherry Lips – Cherry Lips
01. Dead or Alive? (Are You)
02. Haunted
03. Stop Messin’ Around
04. Right Now
05. Mean Hot And Nasty
06. On My Own
07. Back For More
08. Shadow
09. The Race is On
10. Heartbreaker
11. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
12. Narcissus

Guys who say girls can’t rock hard should listen to this record and choke on the guitar violence on the album. Cherry Lips is an all-girls band from Italy formed in 2004, and on 27 March this year the world can expect their first album “Cherry Lips” to be released on Swedmetal Records.

Though this album is more poppy that the music I usually listen to it’s worth more than one spin on my radio. I especially love the music section on this album, it sounds real tight girls!

My personal highlights on this album are “Stop Messin’ Around”, I love the laidback Rolling Stones kinda guitar slide intro, and the vocals sound a bit more aggressive on this one. The song is about something everyone can relate to, people hating the music your playing and wanting you to turn it off. “Mean Hot And Nasty” starts with a mean hot and nasty riff and once again a more aggressive voice than the first couple of songs. Cherry Lips also recorded a way better version of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” I have to say this is the first time I’m not annoyed by this song.

———————————————————————-

Pretty Wild – All The Way (E.P.)
01. All The Way
02. Time
03. Let The Good Times Roll
04. Shockin’ Teen
05. Dangerous
06. Take It Off
07. Let The Good Times Roll (-86 Mix)
08. Dangerous (live in L.A.)

It’s All The Way back to the 80’s Sunset Strip with this record. Loud but melodic buitar riffs and high pitched vocal screams dominate this album. Pretty wild has played the Roxy and Whisky a Go Go in L.A. And I must say, if they’ve been there two decades earlier they would’ve made it bigger than now.

Like the band said themselves, When you turn on a Pretty Wild song you wanna grab a beer and get the party going, this E.P. is perfect party music. Though “All The Way” isn’t just a party disc, I believe their sound is big enough to fill arenas and stadiums.

The party has begun, and you’re invited; 18 February 2009 “All The Way” will hit the stores. Their debut album will be released later this year.

A Stone Get-Off

4 02 2009

Alright, this band is called Mighty High, and their album is called “In Drug City” so whatya think the songs are about?
Right, their about drugs, gettin’ high and scoring shit.

The music on this disc reminds me of old-school Motörhead.. but with a bigger punk influence and maybe some AC/DC. No time for slowing down these songs start fast and end fast. This is loud, fast and drugfueled music and I love it.

“Hooked On Drugs” starts off with an AC/DC kinda feel but as soon as you get used to it the Motörhead drive takes over the song. The vocals really fit the music on this album.. it’s aggressive and loud, just like the music.

The song “Mighty High” is a real punk tune. I dunno how this band does it but it seems like every song on this album makes me wanna bang my head (even though I’m still recovering from a really bad fever and my head feels like I’ve been drinking Jack allnite) and just chant along with the chorusses. This song makes me wanna do just that maybe most of all..

“Buy The Pound” was a suprise for me, ‘cos this song has got a nice blues feel to it. I love the distorted slide guitar intro and the bassline is killer. And i think the vocals contain the most emotions on this song, the emotions being frustration, anger and whatever else falls into this categorie.

So if your into old-school Motörhead, AC/DC and punk, you should devinatly get your fat ass off your chair and go buy this damn record! Though I think you can better order it on the internet.. So just keep your fat ass in your chair and order it!
